A Weekend of Afternoon teas

A busy weekend with afternoon tea at two different locations.

On Saturday, Torthorwald is a small village near Dumfries and they have been organising a scarecrow festival for a number of years. We missed the refreshments last year, so arrived in good time this time. Tea, cakes and scones first, then a gentle wander around the houses to view the inventive displays.

Filling in the voting slip made us think carefully of how much thought and effort had gone into the many displays. There is not enough room here to show every one of the displays.

The results were eventually displayed on Facebook and these are shown below

Children 4th Scarecrow Wedding, 3rd Crozen, 2nd Room on the Broom

And the winner is . . . . .

Crowella DeVil

Adult entries 4th Selfie Crow, 3rd Crovers Return,
2nd You're Crow Money supermarket

And the winner is . . . Status Crow

On Sunday we went to another village north of Dumfries. We took a scenic route as the By-pass was closed and surrounding roads were gridlocked. The ladies of the church at Durisdeer have organised cream tea afternoons every Sunday in September for the last 40+ years. Sandwiches, scones, drop scones, meringues followed by a large selection of cakes. Tea or coffee is refilled as you tuck into the goodies and all for £4 each !!
We then had to head up the track toward the Roman Fort to walk off some of the calories we had comsumed.
Glorious sunshine and wide open spaces ended a perfect weekend.
