Day 1 - 30 Days Wild project

The Wildlife Trusts are encouraging people to 'Go Wild' in June, doing something different for wildlife each day of the month. More details here.

Having downloaded a calendar and booklet, we have thought of a few ideas for things to do that link in with our busy retirement.

Today I refreshed our big bug box. This was made about 10 years ago when we lived in Blackpool.
Some of the pine cones, twigs and sunflower stalks had disintegrated leaving gaps.
The box leans against our shed mural.
BEFORE

Notice the box of trimmed twigs waiting to be used.

AFTER
Notice the lighter colours in the now filled squares.

Later in the day we decided to have an afternoon break from gardening and head for Shancastle Loch (as we call it).
While there, the high winds and rain that had been forecast started so the afternoon cuppa was drunk inside the car as we looked out of rain spattered windows.
We did manage to see the following as they tried to cope with the weather.
Greylag Geese with goslings
Canada Geese with goslings
Little Grebe
Swallows
Black Headed Gulls
Mallards

As we drove home along waterlogged roads we did spot wooded areas still sporting the blue haze of Bluebells around Maxwelton Chapel.
Then as the evening drew in the wind continued to blow but the sun came out and then for a very short while. . . . .
