Update for June

We haven't put many posts on this month as we are taking part in the 30 Days Wild project and are putting posts on the Rambling Russells blog every day in June. Check out this blog for more details of our activities.

We were invited to participate in two big events this month. Williamwood Farm had an open day and we were asked to set out moth traps and then show these to the public as they wandered the farm.

WWT Caerlaverock had a big Bioblitz at the weekend and again moth traps were set the night before and emptied to show the public what lurks around the site at night.

We have been to Bowness on Solway, Barstobrick and took a trip along the Raiders Road at Mossdale to look for any wildlife. Dragonflies and Damselflies are starting to take to the wing but butterflies are still few and far between.

More local walks were taken at Newbie and along the River Annan.

The last one along the Annan came about because WildBunch leader Brian had spotted what he thought might be a fairly rare plant when he was walking a few days ago and he was returning to photograph it and get a more accurate location so that it could be officially recorded.

We jumped at the chance because although we live very close to the river and it has been on our 'tick list', we haven't walked the river bank in 3 years!

There was a wide variety of things to see and photograph that we were kept occupied for the whole afternoon.

And yes we are almost definitely certain that the 'rare' plant is perhaps the Meadow Saxifrage. At least it's quite rare in this region.
