30 Days Going Wild - Day 11

June 11th

Moth Night meant we were involved in setting up traps at the local WWT site last night for a public Hawk Moth Event this morning. Up early to get there and collect in the traps before any members of the public arrived. Unfortunately the weather decided to change from hot and sunny to wet and drizzly this morning too! Luckily the drizzle only lasted about an hour and the day then gradually warmed up again.
We set 5 traps in total 2xRobinson, 1xSkinner and 2xHeath.

Our local County Moth Recorder was among those in attendance to help identify and record our findings. It took 3 hours to work our way through the traps, quite a few micros being put aside for later identification/confirmation. I cannot record the number of moths or species at this point but it was a good number and selection!
WWT had set up an aquarium to display some of the moths we caught.

Here are just a few moths from this morning.

Elephant Hawk Moth

Ghost moth

Peach Blossom

Garden Tiger

Poplar Hawk Moth
